DO YOU RECOGNIZE THE POEM BELOW?!?

In Dec 2020, I uploaded on the Square & Compass YouTube Channel a Masonic Christmas Poem. You can find the video here.

As I discussed in a previous story, Freemasonry & Poetry have a long and proud history. In Windsor, this history was most recently updated via international poet Maria Matuscak. Her 2017 poem “An Ode to the Freemasons Gathered Here Today” is an excellent example of a poem capturing the essence of Freemasonry! You can learn more about it here.

In 2020, I discovered another Masonic poem (Christmas themed) and included it below…

If any readers know of any Masonic postage stamps, please let the author know.

Introduction

2021 marks for both the beautiful Windsor Masonic Temple and Harmony Masonic Lodge (which meets at the Windsor Masonic Temple) 100 years of community service and Brotherhood.

To commemorate these milestones, this author used Canada Post’s “Picture Postage Program” to commission stamps featuring (respectively) the Windsor Masonic Temple’s Iconic Façade and Harmony Masonic Lodge’s Official Logo.

Although not “official” Canadian postage, they…

This interview is also available on YouTube.

In September 2017, Essex District Masons honoured City Hall and City Officials with a “Cornerstone Ceremony.”

As part of the Ceremony, the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario recited a poem entitled “An Ode to the Freemasons Gathered Here Today.”

Maria Matuscak, an internationally published Windsor Poet, composed the poem. Square & Compass Promotions was honoured to have had the opportunity to ask her about the poem, which is an important contribution to Masonic Poetry and Literature (in Ontario and beyond).

“An Ode To…

In February 2020, I started the Square & Compass Podcast. Our first episode featured W. Bro. Michel Brassard.

Since that time, I have been honoured to interview (literal) rocket scientists, heritage preservationists, ghost hunters, soldiers, and truly distinguished Masons.

I have reviewed original architectural blue-prints (from 1921), connected with Masons near and far, reviewed heritage documents, and grown within the craft.

The podcast is available on YouTube, Podbean, Spotify, Apple (ITunes), and Google Podcasts.

As a year has passed since its start, now seems like a good time to review (just) some of what I have learned about Freemasonry, and…

In Sep 2020, Square & Compass provided much of this article to Postmedia for commercial purposes. Postmedia published it on Sep 1st, 2020. Additions have been made.

To step inside the Windsor Masonic Temple is to follow in the footsteps of the men and women (from Prime Ministers to Custodians, from Mayors to Musicians) that have, if only for an evening, called the Windsor Masonic Temple home.

The Windsor Masonic Temple is a Masonic home. It is also home to the cherished memories of our friends, neighbors, parents, and grandparents; memories formed through school dances and graduations, weddings and receptions…

As my bank account can attest, economics is not my forte; the stock market even less so.

My (decidedly less profitable) forte is horror movies, particularly the slasher genre.

As I publish this story, the news is filled with phrases like “shorting,” “stock-market,” and “bubble.” The “Redditers vs. Hedge-Funds” fight is filling column inches, newsfeeds, and cable hours.

As I learn about this fight, my mind wanders to a different fight which took place in years 1988 and 1989: Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael Myers.

Perhaps the right word isn’t “fight.” Perhaps the right word is “bubble.” And perhaps, as…

On January 28th, 2021, I was honoured to be a guest on the Masonic Roundtable podcast! On the Jan 28th episode, we discussed the possibility of a professional component to Freemasonry.

This discussion considered the ethics of a professional component, the benefits/drawbacks a professional component, and the possible pathways to a professional component.

In this story, I focus on the third consideration and ask the question: “what are the possible pathways to a professional component in Freemasonry?”

Of course, the ethics and the benefits/drawbacks of a professional component are worthy of focus, and I will later publish stories focusing on…

Built in 1921, for 100 years the beautiful Windsor Masonic Temple has remained for the people of Windsor and Essex a place of friendship, fellowship, brotherhood, and community.

It is a historical and architectural gem. It is also home to the Scottish Rite Learning Centre for Children with Dyslexia, the Masonic Order of Rainbow (Youth Group), seven Masonic Lodges, Masonic “Rites” coffee and breakfast clubs, and numerous social functions.

Since 1854 (and in Essex County since 1804). At the start of the 20th century, Masons recognized the need for a first-class Masonic and Community home. …

“For every moment of triumph, for every instance of beauty, many souls must be trampled.”

Hunter S. Thompson

In October of 2007, at the beautiful Windsor Masonic Temple, the Worshipful Master of Windsor Lodge №403 initiated me into Freemasonry.

Since that time, I have been installed as Worshipful Master three times (twice in Windsor Lodge №403 and once in my affiliated lodge-Harmony Lodge №579), organized a Cornerstone Ceremony for Windsor’s City Hall, received a “Mason of the Year” award, and travelled countless miles visiting Masonic Lodges and Temples.

While I take pride in those accomplishments, I believe my most valuable Masonic contributions will be found in the future, and will be done through Square…
