Returning to Ottawa
According to the friendly Facebook robots, my last trip to Ottawa took place in 2019. I vaguely recall spending a few hours in Ottawa in 2020, on a layover from Montreal
From what I recall, it was a day-trip (flew out in morning & back at night).
The short duration combined with (typical) crummy weather meant I saw very little of Ottawa. I went straight from the airport, attended a conference, then returned to the airport.
Before that, I visited Ottawa regularly (at least three times a year).
Before that, I spent the summers of 2009 and 2008 interning in Ottawa (in 2009 I interned in the Office of the Prime Minister).
BEFORE THAT, I lived in Ottawa from 2004–2006 (I lived in the Glebe).
All this to say Ottawa is a very important part of my history and maintains major real estate in my heart & mind.
Having spent so long away from Ottawa, it was amazing to visit again for the National Trust 50th anniversary conference #ntconf.
Sadly, once again, my time in Ottawa was limited but at least I had a few hours to visit some of my old haunts-all while learning about heritage restoration and historical preservation with the National Trust. Learning about these things is vital for our Masonic order-including (especially) our built heritage.
It has been especially vital to the Windsor Masonic Temple’s “For The Next 100 Years” project.
Visiting Ottawa is like reuniting with an old friend-a best friend. It has been so long since I went there, and I was so sad to leave.
Can’t wait to return!
In the interim, Square & Compass Promotions looks forward to sharing the information we received from the National Trust Conference across our Social Media channels, which we hope will encourage other Masonic Lodges and bodies to consider how best they can preserve and promote their built heritage!
