Square & Compass Promotions signs Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge
Square & Compass Promotions has signed the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge, to demonstrate our commitment to improving our sustainability score between now and 2030 (the UN World Tourism Organization defines sustainable tourism as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities.”)
As stated on the Sustainable Tourism 2030 page:
“[l]aunched in June 2021, the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge is a global movement of individuals, businesses, and organizations within the tourism and hospitality industry that believe tourism has a tremendous opportunity to become a force for good and change the world.”
The above belief echoes our belief of Freemasonry, that it has a “tremendous opportunity to become a force for good and change the world.”
While Freemasonry is already a force for good and is changing the world, it must sustain this force for future generations.
To sustain means to ensure Freemasonry takes into account the needs of and is relevant to both its membership and the communities in which it is located. This means, in particular, making sure our Masonic buildings are fully accessible, welcoming, energy efficient, and well-maintained. Many Masonic buildings act as tourist destinations, encouraging visitation within their communities from both Masons and local/out-of-town visitors.
At the Windsor Masonic Temple, much of this work is being done both at the Lodge level and through our “For the Next 100 Years,” project, which we have discussed in-depth (and will continue to discuss in the coming months and years)!
From the perspective of Square & Compass Promotions, being sustainable (or improving sustainability) relates to working within our (tourism) industry.
